Off to Burma............

Liddy

Thank you for the comments everyone, we are really enjoying them.

Well this is just a quick post as bed is calling. We got back to Bangkok today and picked up our Burmese visas, which was a great relief (various forum postings had been stating that visas were being refused because of the elections that took place yesterday). We fly tomorrow.

Rumour has it that there has been a massive cyber attack on Burma (to do with the elections) with the result that much of the internet is down so we may go off signal for a few weeks. We are due back in Bangkok on around the 8th December but hopefully will be posting in the interim!

  1. Hello Liddy, Mike, Sam and Meg,
Finally got on-line and loved reading your blog and catching up on the first few days of your trip. Liddy - it is like having you in the room reading some of your descriptions of family life on the road and while I listen to the howling wind and horizontal rain spattering the windows here in Suffolk it made me laugh! Really enjoyed hearing about frugal Liddy versus happy shopper Mike. It reminded me of when I made Nick take a six hour (70 rupee) bus trip up the winding roads to the tea plantations in Kerala (someone was sick on his foot!) rather than spend £10 on a taxi - poor Nick was on holiday and I was in backpacker mode!

Autumn/Winter has really arrived here so feeling VERY jealous and really looking forward to hearing all about Burma. William is fascinated by the video clip of Sam and his cousin on the train and T rex at the Natural History Museum. If you get a chance can you put on another little video saying hello?!

Anyway, hope all is going well and lots of love to you all,
Rebecca, Nick, Wiliam, Ben and Rosie xx

  2. Hi Mike, Liddy, Sam & Meg,
The girls are enjoying your blog posts...they were a tad befuddled how you could be a LADY and a BOY at the same time!
Good to know that Mike's tight arse bragging is just a front and that he's truly under your thumb Liddy...we now know who wears the pants in your marriage.
Take care and don't let the inner-Pleasants out in Burma Mike, wouldn't be a good look to get locked up with the other dissidents!

  3. Great 'diary' on the map everyone. Come on Meggles - smile for Britain and Australia. Mother-in-law very interested in the inner-Pleasants comment!

  4. Can't believe you haven't heard about the inner-Pleasants Trish?? Perhaps Mike has it well and truly under control...goes hand in hand with the "doesn't suffer fools gladly" trait!

  6. Greetings!
I am planning a trip with my family (2 kids, 3 and 5) to Burma next year and have really enjoyed your blog. I cannot believe your trip... that is so awesome!
I have a few technical questions, if you don't mind. When you got your visas in Bangkok for Burma, did the whole family have to show up at the embassy? How long did it take while there and how long to receive them? Were the visas good for travel up to 3 months from the issue date? Thanks so much for any help! If there are also any highlights from Burma for kids you would like to share, I would love that (as well as anything/place to avoid).
    Thanks again,
